Methods of Artificial Pollination

Two methods artificial pollination may be carried out involves:

  1. Hand Pollination – refers to an individual manually pollinating flowers of a plant, without the help of insects or mechanical devices. Hand pollination can be done by simply tapping two flower heads together to transfer pollen or by using a cotton swab or small brush to transfer pollen from one flower to another.
  2. Mechanical Pollination – using an electrical machine, such as a tractor, quad bike or even air plane, to mechanically spray pollen onto fields of crops.
